Knowledge Engineering
 |
The process of building knowledge-based systems is called knowledge engineering. It has a great deal in common with software engineering, and is related to many computer science domains such as artificial intelligence, databases, data mining, expert systems, decision support systems and geographic information systems.
Information in all its derived forms (data, audio and video recordings, texts, speeches, etc) makes up a major stake on the international scene, one that centers on its control and analysis. This includes all channel and media through which information is received or disseminated: newspapers, books, television, radio, telephones, web, mail, photography and images, audio or video recordings, databases or ftp files, cartographic collection, etc.
The real challenge goes beyond mere “information” to ts “control”. “Controlling Information” in its literal sense, has become one of the major assets for objective decision-making as much at state levels as it is at corporate levels. The non-dependence on foreign software and systems for the value-add analysis of such information contributes to safeguarding state sovereignty.
